On the run... again and again

I ate something bad for dinner Saturday night. Very bad. To spare you the gory and unpleasant details, let's just say that I've spent the last two days wearing a path in the carpet from my bed to the bathroom. Just today I felt confident enough to try eating again... having two pieces of bread and some cheese cubes. So far so good on that deal. The frequency and severity of the trips have decreased, but no where near feeling even close to being human. Although not keeping track, I've probably slept 14-16 hours per day over the last two days.

I don't think I've ever been this sick in my life. I had a bout of food poisoning about 10 years ago, but it didn't last nearly this long or have me this wrecked. I've gone through two 2-liter bottles of diet Ginger Ale trying to keep some fluids in me. I'm out of that now, and have switched over to the last few cans of Coke Zero in the refrigerator. There's no chance of me even risking leaving the abode of bobness to restock. Early on there were times I wouldn't even make it back to my bed before I was up again on the way back to bathroom. I wouldn't risk a trip outside my front door.

I've got a previously scheduled doctor's appointment tomorrow morning. With any luck I'll be able to make it there without any incidents and he'll be able to put an end to this nonsense. If anyone has any ideas to help, I'd much appreciate them. I've tried to keep this as non-descriptive as possible, but I'll apologize in advance if I've grossed out too many people. Gotta run... if you know what I mean.

There is the tried and true BRAT diet that we always use: Bananas, rice, applesauce and tea. And NO dairy until things are all settled down.

http://www.wildernessdrum.com/html/travelers_diarrhea.html has some rehydration formulas that you can make yourself, and that I have heard are better for the system than sodas and gatorade.

I agree with SRR. I wouldn't be be doing sodas. GENTLE, GENTLE GENTLE. See what SRR wrote. Baby food is key to recovery. It's all in the baby food isle. Hummmmmmmmmm. You aren't venturing out, so can't get to the baby isle. Hummmmmmmmmm. Okay, you're screwed.

I'd come down to take care of you but wouldn't want something to fly out and hit me. What? I'm brave. Just not that brave.

Please feel better soon. And Bob, stop eating stupid stuff. *Suze rolls eyes in head.*

XO

I'll go get Megan.

Does your local grocery store take phone orders? All of mine do. You just phone in an order with a credit card and they deliver. You can get yourself whatever you need that way.

Soda and gatorade are totally fine, though, Bob. It's less about what you drink and more about just drinking period. Whatever you can stand to get yourself hydrated with.

I bet you'll be back with it soon. Hang in there.

I don't think there's much I can do, Suz.

Hope you feel better soon, Bob!

Crap. I can't think of a thing. Sorry. That is rather shitty.

Some observations:

Merleyme is toying with us. How rude. She's such a little wise ass.

Megan is borderng on a really crappy wife. I'm having second thoughts.

Leah is vacationing and enjoying toying with us. I don't think that's right. We're going to have to have an Adirondack Smack Down. Move over Bobby Flay.

This is just Monday. Right?

Aww, poor Bob! I'm sorry you are sick. I can't imagine anything worse. I hope you are feeling better soon. Gatorade. Most definitely Gatorade. And toast. Rice, bananas. Tea.

NO CHEESE.

Cheese= more trips to the toilet.

Feel better, Bob.

Hope you're feeling better today!

Thanks everyone. Kylie was right, the doctor told me I just need to ride it out and keep drinking fluids. I made it all the way to his office and back home without an incident so that's something positive. I've also lost 8 pounds in the last 4 days... not a fun way to do it.

Hope you are feeling better Just Bob and the doctor took good care of you.

Get well soon! No other advice...you've gotten the best. ;-)

pedialite.

although of course that means you must leave the abode of bobness...

Leah said...

Oh yes, I was going to suggest Pedialyte! it's more mellow than Gatorade. They make popsicles too.

But I'm thinking maybe you're feeling better today? Take it really easy anyway. This is your excuse to pamper and take good care of yourself.

Leah said...

Okay, pamper was probably a terrible choice of word.

I meant, lie about and watch movies and relax.

Leah is right! Now is the time to Luv and Huggie yourself.

Oh no!!!

Hope you're doing better! That sucks BIG TIME!!

You still alive?! "Pamper." I saw that and LOL. "Miss. Leah" came bad and "caught" that. Too funny. It's funnier that she caught it than she said it!!!

I hope you're feeling better, but I assume you've stayed home from work? Right? Do you think you have the flu? I'm hearing an Emergeny Alert from the t.v. in the living room. Be right back.

Not an Amber alert, thank God, just an National Weather Service Alert for flash flooding in El Dorado County (where Rob's firm's located). I called and said "Honey, whatever you do the NWS is alerting you to stay away from water that looks "too deep" and not try and "drive your car through." Also, stay away from "ponding water." I added "Also, if you can please stay away from all tributaries to the American River I'd appreciate that too. I'd hate to find you washed up on shore in Natomas while trying to feed the ferals." However, I was rudely interrupted by a long beep. Apparently I used more than 100 words. With what we pay for this Comcast plan, we should have more than 100 words. Right?

Okay, so Bob, hang in there. You have wonderful friends who adore you. Listen to all the advice because it's really good!

Get well soon.
XO Blottie ;)
Okay, so hopefully Rob survives, doesn't act stupid near water and stays away from any sink during lightening. We'll see. Let's cross our fingers folks.

That last bit wasn't supposed to be there. Hummmmmmm. Oh well! Leah can apparently edit a comment, but I haven't a clue and no time to research.

Bob! Waiting for your theme Thursday....!!!!??!!!

Leah said...

How are you doing today? See how I hover about like a nervous mother type? Ever think a once-random-stranger-now-no-longer would be worrying about you all the way from Brooklyn, without ever having met you in person?

I hope you're feeling better.

You think she would have "hovered" long enough to edit the damn comment. That woman's going to be the death of me.

I made it a 1/2 day at work on Wednesday and a full day on Thursday. I'm starting to get my energy back. Lots of Powerade, applesauce and bananas. Anytime I try anything more adventurous I seem to slide backward. We'll see what this weekend brings.

Suzanne said...

Hey honey. Nice to hear you're finding your land legs. Good for you. The weekend's going to be beautiful. You'll see.

Rob was discussing the finer points of a "stand in" with me. I'll get back to you when he gets off the phone with the other lawyer. That really is an odd concept.

XO Blottie

I'm glad, Bob! Baby steps.

Suzy--the stand-in, is that in reference to my suggestion about the people who fight your tickets for you, or something else?
